Buying and Selling a Car can be Difficult.

If you're like most people, you only buy or sell a car every 3 years so it's not uncommon to find that people are unfamiliar or apprehensive about the process. Let's face it, most sales people at dealerships are too.

If you're selling your car, the easiest thing to do to ease the process is to gather as much information as you can about your vehicle and the selling process. Once you have that information, provide it to the buyer because they're concerned too.

Start with things that you probably already have such as:

  • Original window sticker or bill of sale
  • Service records
  • Warranty documentation
  • CarFax or AutoCheck Report
  • Listing values from PriceDart
  • Documentation on any modifications or defects in the vehicle

You should also repair inexpensive items that mean a lot to a buyer. For instance, in Florida, you can have your windshield repaired once per year and have the cost covered by the insurance company. If you've not taken advantage of that, there's an easy way to make a repair that means a lot to a buyer. If you're not in a state that does that, rock chip repair is $100 or less at most glass companies.

You can also use a Sharpie to color in black parts of the interior or use Black Magic dressing on external black rubber pieces to bring them back to life. There are dozens of things you can do to spruce up the product. If you don't, then you'll likely not get top dollar for your vehicle or you'll end up loosing on trade in.
